As humans beings, we tend to look things in linear as we have been mis-educated that if I put eight hours of work I will receive eight hours of outputs - which is something that always gets proven otherwise.
The notion that one has to work harder than the other guy to climb any ladder they may be ambitious for is long gone. It is unfortunate that a lot of people still believe that the harder they work, the more likely they will succeed - which turns out not to be the case in most, if not all instances.
What matters most is the quality of the work you do, and whom you do it with. The guy at the grocery store works harder and more hours than you but your outputs are different. You probably get more benefits and wages. Why is that?
Because of the quality of work you do, and whom you do it with. You may produce quality output but if whom you do it with fails to recognise the quality of your outputs, all your hard work will be in vain.
No matter how hard you may work, what you do and whom you do it with is the sole factor that will determine how far your success goes within the space you're in. However, in recent years, it seems that whom you do the work with and whom you know has become the main factor in people reaping more fruits than those who work hard.
Before you embark on working hard and be the most hard-working person, think about the outputs of your work and whom you do the work with and for, as those factors will truly determine your success compared to just "working hard".
Just be careful - Explore and understand your space thoroughly, then take the necessary steps to reach whatever your goal is.
Do not just work hard for the sake of working hard, there are other factors to consider.
