For any project or aim, there must be goals and objectives set to see the completion or fruition of it. However, merely setting goals is not sufficient. You ought to do more than that.
Everybody has a goal. But why does not everybody achieve their goals?
It is because they merely set goals, which is a very easy task, a task that can be done by a pre-schooler.
Now what makes elders merely set goals just like pre-schoolers but never see those goals to completion?
For one to achieve his or her goals, they have to implement ways to see those goals in life, and that requires tools. One of those tools includes building a system.
Those who always accomplish their goals and tasks have systems they work by. Some may not be consciously aware of those systems but they have them.
Building a system for your goal's accomplishment is nothing but having a clear schedule and being disciplined in following it.
There are many forms of building a system that can work for you. Here I will speak only to the most fundamental - that is having a systematic schedule, that has a process and a timeframe.
The most fundamental psychological requirement for any system to be effective is to be disciplined. Yes Everybody talks about discipline. But this is because many people struggle with discipline, this is a fact.
So building a system that you will follow until completion requires you to be disciplined.
Your system may include scheduling daily time to work on your goal. For example:
Every weekday at 8 p.m. you do research about the potential, pitfalls, and everything other thing involved in your goal or project.
At 9 p.m., you pen down your strategies and different ways you can use to accomplish the goal, not just effectively but quickly.
The next day or week, you look back at your previous to-do tasks and see whether you have done them all as per your intention. If not, you find another strategy to implement.
This can be a weekly or daily exercise, meaning this will be a system you have built that will ensure you do not just achieve your goal but keep you in check when you fall behind. But most importantly, it will aid you in your ultimate aim - to achieve your set goal in your set timeframe.
Those who achieve their goals always have a plan, and a plan must have a system to be followed and be lived by it.
Do not just set a goal and have a plan. Build systems and discipline to follow those systems.
So, next time you set a specific goal, also build a system for it. Doing so will surely skyrocket your goal's achievement and your completion rate.
