We grew up knowing that Jesus was born on the 25th of December, hence we celebrate his birthday on this day which was dubbed Christmas. The 25th of December. This applies to Christians.
However, no one is really certain that Jesus was indeed born on the 25th of December. The early church leaders actually argued against trying to determine Jesus's birthday. Some saw Jesus's death, the crucifixion, and the resurrection as the most significant days since there is so little about Jesus' birth.
It was not until the 2nd century that the church leaders and followers began to try figuring out what date was Jesus born. The 25th of December was established as Jesus's birthday by the emperor Constantine. But he and other church leaders did not choose any date. They had a reason for that date.
The church chose this date per Jesus' death. His death was on March 25th, on the Passover. The 25th of March is exactly nine months before the 25th of December, and therefore the 25th of December was selected as the date for Christ's birth.
They believed that the prophets die on the same day they were conceived, counting back the nine months of pregnancy and then giving the exact date and month. That is how they came up with the 25th of December.
Looking at the human biological facts that we know today, we can be skeptical of this measure of Jesus' day of birth, since there is no real evidence of his exact date of birth. But Jesus was no ordinary human being after all.
Ultimately, the specific date when Jesus was born is not as important as How and Why.
